The Bellingham Post 7 Senior Legion baseball team had its back against the wall but came through in strong fashion at the State Regional tournament Sunday, July 19, in Longview.
Post 7 started the day with a 15-5 loss to Pac Tech, which dropped them into a loser-out, winner-to-state game later in the day.
Post 7 actually outhit Pac Tech 14-12 but Pac Tech exploded in the seventh inning, scoring 10 runs against Bellingham. Ernie Yake and Noah Rawls were 3 for 4 and Kyler Brudwick and Kyle Little were each 2 for 4.
“They had clutch hits and we didn’t,” Post 7 coach Steve Slesk said in a phone interview. “We got to the seventh inning and they put it on us.”

In the loser-out game, Post 7 bounced back with a 6-3 win over Central Washington to make the state tournament.
Slesk said credit goes to Rawls, who gave up seven hits and three runs while striking out four and walking four in a complete game.
“Season was on the line and we came in pretty loose. The kids battled and I was really proud of that,” Slesk said. “The biggest key of this game was Noah Rawls. He only had a hiccup in the fourth inning (three runs). Otherwise, he was outstanding.”
The state tournament, which is an eight-team, double-elimination bracket format, starts at 10 a.m. Friday, July 24, at Joe Martin Field. Post 7 is guaranteed the 7 p.m. games Friday and Saturday with Friday’s game being against the Spokane Bandit.
