Lynden’s Cade Slayton highlighted the first day of play at the Cal Ripken U12 State Tournament on Thursday, July 9, at the ConocoPhillips66 Sports Complex in Ferndale. Slayton’s RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Lynden a 4-3 win over Ellensburg.
The Whatcom Americans won their game 10-0 over Forks, as Ryan Pelton threw a four-inning no-hitter and contributed two hits at the plate.
The Whatcom Nationals, however, couldn’t duplicate the same success, as they fell 17-4 to North Olympic.
Mount Vernon-Conway got a 1-0 win over Othello in a pitcher’s duel that consisted of four hits between both clubs and Forks topped Othello 4-3.
