After two early runs, the Bellingham Bells’ bats went silent, as their seven-game win streak came to an end with a 4-2 loss to Cowlitz on Wednesday, July 8, at Joe Martin Field.
Walker Olis had an RBI single in the first inning and Lou Della Fera had a sacrifice fly in the second for the Bells, as they pulled to a 2-1 lead. But a fourth inning run by Cowlitz tied it up and the Bears picked up a run in the seventh off Channing Nesbitt and an unearned run in the eighth off Riley Storedahl.
Cowlitz pitcher Chris Castellanos went six innings, allowing only two runs and five hits, before Seth Rayburn and Lars Rider pitcher a perfect three innings of relief.
“We played a tough Cowlitz team and they pitched really well,” coach Jeff James said. “The ball just didn’t bounce our way tonight.”
The Bells will look to get back on track with two nonleague games against the San Francisco Seals. The first of which is on Friday, July 10, at Joe Martin.
“We have a much-needed day off tomorrow and we’ll get back at it Friday night,” James said.
The positive is the Bells still hold a 7 1/2 game lead over Cowlitz and Victoria in the West Division of the West Coast League.
