Post 7 advances to quarterfinals
Bellingham Post 7 continued to cruise in the Spokane Fourth of July Tournament, ending both games early on Friday, July 3, by way of the eight-run rule.
Charlie Carmichael threw a one-hit gem, striking out eight, in the first game as Bellingham topped the Spokane 49ers 13-0. He was throwing a no-hitter until the fourth inning.
Jake Albert continued the success on the mound in the latter of the doubleheader, throwing five innings of shutout ball against the tournament’s defending champs in an 8-0 win.
“That was the best Albert has looked for us all year,” Post 7 coach Steve Slesk said in a phone interview. “He’s not going to blow it by people but he was hitting his spots and his stuff was really good.”
Bellingham will face the Okotoc Dogs from Canada at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 4, in the quarterfinals.
