Post 7 get walk-off win on first day of tourney
Bellingham Post 7 put itself in great position during the first day of the Wood Bat Classic, going 2-0 on Thursday, July 2, in Spokane.
The first game provided some early fireworks, as Kyler Brudwick’s single in the seventh drove in Jordan Wittenberg, who hit a two-out double, for the walk-off 4-3 win over St. Albert. Noah Rawls got the win for pitching the last 1 1/3 innings, while David Stealy threw the first three and Felix Zavisubin tossed 2 1/3.
The latter of the doubleheader, Post 7 dispatched Great Falls Montana in convincing fashion, getting a five-inning 12-1 win.
“That team was a little younger and we had them a little overmatched,” Post 7 coach Steve Slesk said in a phone interview.
Kyler Schemstad pitched all five innings, striking out five and walking only one.
If Post 7 goes 2-0 tomorrow during its 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. games against two Spokane teams, Bellingham will advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday, July 4.
