Post 7 sweeps Juanita
The American Legion Post 7 baseball club received an outstanding outing from Charlie Carmichael, and the team came away with two wins during a doubleheader against Juanita on Saturday, June 27, at Sehome High School.
Carmichael, the team’s usual closer, offered up a complete-game, five-inning shutout, leading Post 7 to a 18-0 win during the first game. The Bellingham product struck out six and only gave up two hits.
“We needed a pitcher to go the distance,” coach Steve Slesk said in a phone interview. “He got a spot start today and was just great.”
Post 7 had to rally from behind in the second game before winning 10-5.
Jake Albert earned the win, but it was a key fourth-inning double from Jordan Wittenberg that gave the club a 4-3 advantage. Bellingham poured on six runs in the sixth inning to pull away.
Both Wittenberg and Kyler Schemstad finished the day with four hits apiece.
