Wolgamot leads Bellingham Canoe and Kayak Sprint Team’s strong showing

Bellingham Canoe and Kayak Sprint Team U14 girls sprinter Elena Wolgamot led an impressive showing by the BCKST by collecting five gold medals, two silvers and a bronze at the prestigious PNW Ted Houk Regatta at Green Lake in Seattle on Saturday and Sunday, June 6-7.

Wolgamot earned golds in the K1 200 meters K1 500 meters K1 1,000 meters, K2 500 meters and K2 200 meters races, silvers in the K4 500 meters U14 and K4 500 meters U16 races and her bronze in the K2 200 meters U16 race.

Fellow BCKST U14 paddler Ana Swetish won a pair of gold medals in the K2 500 meters and K2 200 meters to go along with five silver medals and one bronze.

Sierra Noskoff and Abby Scoggins also won bronze medals in the K4 500 meters U14 and K4 500 meters U16 races.

On the boys’ side, Jonas Ecker won a U14 gold in the K4 1,000 meters to go along with a silver and a bronze, while Cameron Bartlett placed fourth, sixth and eighth in his U16 races.

The event featured top U14, U16 and U18 team from throughout Oregon, Washington and British Columbia.

BCKST will host the Bellingham Regatta on June 20 at Lake Padden. Competition is scheduled to run between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
