Bellingham sends Seahawks winning vibes with cheers, massive human 12 formation
Whatcom County showed up in a big way to support the Seattle Seahawks.
To kick off Super Bowl weekend, the 12th Man came together at Civic Stadium for a gathering hosted by the city of Bellingham and the Pacific Northwest Media Group, during which fans of all ages took to the field to form a massive 12.
“We wanted to give a chance for 12s fans in Whatcom, Skagit and Lower B.C. to come out and celebrate being a Seahawks fan because there’s not too many [local] opportunities unless you drive down to Seattle,” said Sam Kristofferson, event organizer and editor-in-chief of My Bellingham Now.
As music and cheers filled the stadium, fans followed the outline cones on the field, all decked in Seahawks memorabilia.
Moments before the overhead photo was taken, a recliner from Wilson’s Furniture and a $500 Gift Card from DeWaard & Bode, were raffled off, with winners receiving cheers from the crowd as well. Then, as the crowd chanted for the Seahawks, the overhead photo was taken.
“The Hawks only go to the Super Bowl every once in a while. We want to show them how much this community loves them.” said Scotty VanDryver, radio host and event emcee. “I love the electricity in the air, that people are here to cheer on our team.”
