Sehome High and University of Washington alum Taylor Rapp has cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol and could play in Super Bowl LVI for the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

Rapp, who missed the Rams’ three playoff games due to a concussion, cleared protocol late last week and was a full participant in a practices on Friday, Feb. 4, according to a story Monday by SBNation.com.

Rapp, who grew up in Bellingham and graduated from Sehome in 2016, had a strong regular season in his third year out of UW. Serving as starting free safety for L.A., Rapp recorded a career-high four interceptions to go along with six passes defensed and 81 tackles (51 solo). He also recovered a fumble.

But Rapp suffered a concussion during the Rams’ overtime loss to San Francisco in the final week of the regular season, forcing him to miss the Rams’ playoff wins over Arizona, Tampa Bay and San Francisco to reach the Super Bowl.

If he plays in the Super Bowl, it will be the postseason debut for Rapp, as he also missed both playoff games for L.A. following the 2020 season, when he landed on the injured reserve after battling knee injuries.

It has not yet been reported if Rapp will start in the Super Bowl.

In his absence, the Rams signed retired safety Eric Weddle for their playoff run after losing Rapp and fellow starting safety Jordan Fuller to injury.

Rapp, 24, was a second-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft after playing three seasons for Washington. He decided to forgo his senior season, after earning multiple first-team All-America honors, despite missing the Huskies’ Rose Bowl appearance due to injury.
