Despite outshooting Cedarcrest 13 to six, Squalicum lost its Class 2A District Tournament first-round match 2-1 on Saturday, May 7, at Cedarcrest High School.
Squalicum even scored the first goal of the game in the 21st minute when Eli Guidroz blasted a pass from Tyler Hughes into the net from 32 yards out.
Cedarcrest came right back with the equalizer in the 30th minute on a corner kick headed in by Alden Massey. The match remained tied at one until there were 10 minutes left and Nikolos Reierson scored to put Cedarcrest up 2-1.
“I thought we played well enough to win,” coach Joe McAuliffe said. “Nine times out of 10 we win that game.”

McAuliffe highlighted the play of his teams’ defense but also of Guidroz and Hughes who, according to their coach, made good looks to help spark the Storm offense.
Squalicum will host Bellingham in an elimination game scheduled for 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 10, at Civic Stadium.
