Alan Eyoub’s two goals couldn’t lift Meridian in its 3-2 Class 1A Northwest District Tournament first round loss at Sultan on Monday, May 2.
Eyoub scored once in the 35th minute on an assist by Jordan Birnell to tie the game at one heading into halftime. He scored again on a penalty kick in the 56th minute to tie the game 2-2, but a minute later the Turks scored on a penalty kick of their own.
”Alan has been pretty fantastic all year,” coach Joe Spencer said in a phone interview. “He was getting double and triple teamed, but his first goal was textbook and exactly what we practice.”

Sultan’s goal in the 57th minute made the score 3-2 proved to be the deciding blow in the game. A questionable penalty kick was awarded after a Sultan player made a run into the box and collided with Meridian goalie Parker Bromet.
Meridian awaits the loser of the South Whidbey/King’s semifinal for an elimination game scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at Whatcom Community College.
