Jacob Sorenson scored the only goal of the game in the 76th minute to give Ferndale a 1-0 Northwest Conference win over Mount Baker on Tuesday, April 26.
Sorenson’s goal came off an assist from Carlos Padilla-Solis, who was playing on the right side of the field even though he’s left-footed. Coach Rigel Weis said his team had to work extremely hard to find a goal despite having 12 shots in the second half.
“It was a calm, collected finish,” Weis said. “It was good to see him be able to finish a great ball by Carlos. Jacob just made it count.”
Sehome 2, Lynden Christian 0: Jack Willis scored twice in the first 30 minutes of the game to give Sehome a Northwest Conference win over Lynden Christian. Willis’ first goal was unassisted and his next goal was on a header assisted by Isaac DeVange in the 29th minute.
Anacortes 1, Blaine 0: Blaine allowed a goal in the 10th minute in a Northwest Conference loss to Anacortes. Despite 29 saves by Borderites’ goalie Matthew Wheaton, Blaine wasn’t able to get its offense going.
Burlington-Edison 6, Lynden 3: Lynden allowed twice as many goals as it scored in a Northwest Conference loss to Burlington-Edison. Nick Parris scored in the 18th minute on an assist by Jose Rios but the Lions were held scoreless until the 49th minute when Erensto Zamora scored on an assist by Jordan Ramirez.
Bellingham 3, Sedro-Woolley 1: It took Bellingham until the 32nd minute to score but two more goals in the second half pushed them past Sedro-Woolley. Spencer Sumpter scored on a Dane Thurston free kick followed by a 46th minute goal by Luis Martinez. Casey Carter capped the Red Raiders’ night off with a goal in the 74th minute.
Squalicum 3, Meridian 0: Squalicum shut out Meridian and scored all of its goals in the second half to earn a Northwest Conference win. Ale Tomasi scored on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute, Tyler Hughes scored in the 59th minute and Luke Reinschmidt scored in the 74th minute.
