Cory Haskins made the most of his varsity opportunity with a goal to help Bellingham beat Meridian 2-1 in a Northwest Conference game on Tuesday, April 19, at Northwest Fields.
Haskins, a senior, had been playing JV and was called up to play the second half of Tuesday’s game. Eight minutes later he scored on a cross from Keenan Knutilla to tie the game at one.
“It made the game and was by far the highlight,” coach Matt Zigulis said. “It’s something I will always remember as a coach.”
Mount Baker 5, Nooksack Valley 0: The Mountaineers earned a Northwest Conference victory over the Pioneers. No other information was available at press time.
Sehome 4, Blaine 0: Jack Willis had a hat trick in Sehome’s Northwest Conference victory over Blaine. Willis started the Mariners’ offense in the fifth minute and then scored in the 45th and 82nd minutes as Sehome was in control all game.
Lynden Christian 4, Sedro-Woolley 3: Lynden Christian’s Jo Meppelink scored in the 75th minute to give the Lyncs a Northwest Conference win over Sedro-Woolley. The goal started with a corner kick from Blake De Ruyter which Nate Hielkema flicked on to Meppelink which proved to be the game-winning sequence.
Anacortes 3, Lynden 1: Milan Kassa had a hat trick in the first half and Lynden couldn’t catch up in a Northwest Conferenc loss to Anacortes. The Lions only goal was scored by Gerardo Quiroz on an assist by Jose Rios in the 60th minute but Lynden couldn’t capitalize on opportunities.
Burlington-Edison 5, Ferndale 0: The Golden Eagles lost a Northwest Conference game to the Tigers. No other information was available at press time.
