Coach Valentin Villalobos may have pulled his starters a bit too early in Nooksack Valley’s 4-3 Northwest Conference win over Lynden.
The Pioneers led 4-1 with 10 minutes left after goals in the 20th, 45th and 66th minutes. Luis Garcia was the first to score on an assist by David Flores followed by a goal by Flores five minutes into the second half.
Villalobos then started putting in his bench. Six minutes later, a penalty kick goal by Nick Parris and then a goal by Jose Rios put the Lions within striking distance. However, Nooksack Valley was able to hold on for its fourth win of the year.
”I wasn’t expecting the penalty kick,” Villalobos said. “But we managed to come out with the win and we played our best out of the entire season.”
