Meridian senior forward Alan Eyoub was the beneficiary of an organized midfield and piled on five goals to lead the Trojans to a 6-0 Northwest Conference home win against Lynden on Thursday, March 24.
Eyoub scored goals in the 14th, 20th, 37th, 50th and 60th minutes, while Jordan Birnel contributed three assists.
“Lynden’s midfield is really good, and we had a plan for them,” Meridian coach Joe Spencer said. “We were organized, and it worked accordingly. From that it created chance after chance, and (Eyoub) is a special player.”
The five goals pushed Eyoub’s season total to 11 through five games. Joe Wilson scored the Trojans’ other goal in the 53rd minute. Alex Klykov, Ernan Martinez and Shane Olson recorded Meridian’s other three assists.
Meridian (3-2-0, 1-1-0 NWC) faces Burlington-Edison next at 4 p.m. Monday, March 28, while Lynden (4-2-0, 1-1-0 NWC) will look to rebound against Ferndale at 4 p.m. next Monday.
Bellingham 2, Blaine 0: Eduardo Perez had a goal in the 53rd minute off an assist by Spencer Sumpter and Miles Henkel had a goal in the 65th minute off an assist from Anders Botterill as the Red Raiders beat the Borderites at Northwest Fields.
Ferndale 0, Sedro-Woolley 0: Nikita Leonovets had three saves and Ferndale got close but couldn’t find the net on its 12 shots on goal.
Squalicum 5, Lynden Christian 1: Tyler Hughes scored twice, and Ben Peterson, Eli Guidroz and Giovanni Melley added goals to lead the Storm to a decisive NWC win over Lynden Christian.
