Prep boys’ soccer roundup: Lynden rolls past Nooksack Valley
Lynden rebounded from a season-opening loss to Ferndale with a 4-1 nonleague win over Nooksack Valley on Wednesday, March 16, at Bender Fields in Lynden.
The Lions built a four-goal advantage during the game’s first 58 minutes with goals from Ernesto Zamora, Nick Parris, Geraldo Quiroz and Miguel Gonzalez.
Nooksack Valley’s lone goal came on a free kick in the 75th minute.
“We still need to work on our fitness, because we got tired toward the end of the game,” Lynden coach Drew Smiley said in a phone interview. “It was the second game of the year, and it was much (improved) form from the first game.”
Lynden (1-1-0) travels to play Sedro-Woolley next at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 17, while Nooksack Valley (1-2-0) hosts Blaine at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 19.
Other results
Squalicum 1, Bellingham 0: Tyler Hughes beat a number of defenders and scored an unassisted goal in the 30th minute to give the Storm the victory at Civic Stadium. Owen Davis-Bower had seven saves in goal for Squalicum and the Storm had 18 shots on goal to Bellingham’s six.
