Prep boys’ soccer: Red Raiders, Mariners play to tie

The Bellingham and Sehome boys’ soccer teams played to a 1-1 tie Monday, March 14, at Civic Stadium.

Sehome’s Gabe Weight scored first on an assist from Rylan Hinkle but Bellingham would strike back as Blake Langei scored off a free kick by Will Mascioli with about 15 minutes left in the first half.

Sehome coach John Sylvester said in a phone interview that his Mariners had some chances but Bellingham is a very difficult team this season.

“I think a lot of teams are going to have trouble playing against them,” Sylvester said, saying while it was Sehome’s first game and Bellingham’s second it, “... felt like a playoff game.”

Devin Trueb had six saves in goal for Sehome, and Joe Worley was in goal for Bellingham but Worley’s saves total was not available at press time.

“A tie was a good reflexion of how it went,” Bellingham coach Matt Zigulis said in a phone interview. “That Sehome team is just so hard to break down. They definitely stretched us to our limit.”
