Mountaineers’ offense gets going in 3-1 win

Mount Baker’s girls’ soccer team scored two second-half goals in a 3-1 Northwest Conference victory on Thursday, Oct. 15, at Mount Baker High School.

Taylor VanBrocklin and Breanna Hesyck scored while Jensen Bertrand got her first of the season. Bertrand also tallied an assist.

“They were fantastic today; they kept putting pressure on Anacortes defense,” Mountaineers coach Jason Jorgensen said in a phone interview. “We had about 18 shots, which is fantastic.”

It puts the Mountaineers in strong position for the second Class 1A spot from the Northwest Conference, as they battle with Lynden Christian for that spot. The Mountaineers will look to continue to put points against Meridian on Saturday, Oct. 17, on the road.
