Lynden girls’ soccer wins 1-0 against Sedro-Woolley
Elisa Kooiman earned a single goal for Lynden girls’ soccer late in the second half to win 1-0 against Sedro-Woolley on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Bender Fields.
Lynden led through the first half but allowed Sedro-Woolley to gain some momentum in the second before Kooiman settled the final score. The team missed Lily Bogart, who was given a red card in the game on Saturday against Lynden Christian, Lynden coach Carlos Melendez said in a phone interview. The shutout victory was possible despite not having the energy of some key players. Sierra Smith, a lead scorer for Lynden, was taken out twice by Sedro-Woolley’s defenders.
“I thought Emily Holt in goal did a great job. She got the shutout,” Melendez said. “She is the captain of the team and she kept her team in the game.”
