Squalicum’s girls’ soccer team’s defense stepped up, limiting Cedarcrest to just five shots as Miranda Rodriguez got her first varsity time in net in a 4-0 Storm win on Saturday, Sept. 19, on the road.

Kim Hazlett scored first before Kim Dorr netted a hat trick — the Storm’s second in two games — in the first half. Rodriguez made three saves.

“I thought the big thing was playing defense. We limited the opportunites,” Squalicum coach David Kish said in a phone interview. “When they did get on net, Miranda did a nice job getting them. But the best defense is not letting them get off a shot in the first place.”

Squalicum takes on Anacortes on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Civic Stadium. .
