Trojans girls’ soccer scores as flurry early to top Bellingham

Meridian’s girls’ soccer team scored three goals in the first 12 minutes on the way to a 3-2 Northwest Conference victory over Bellingham on Saturday, Sept. 19, at home.

Payton Lunde, Micaela Pimento and Emily Brackinreed all jumped on the Red Raiders early and then Sydney Gospodinovich’s 10 saves held the Red Raiders to just two goals — Peyton Schwinger in the 50th and Morgan Jones in the 52nd.

“They came into warmups super pumped up, encouraging each other,” Trojans coach Terri Tigert said in a phone interview. “It is such an exciting win, coming out that strong scoring three goals. I don’t even know how to explain.”

The Trojans face Nooksack on Thursday, Sept. 24 and Bellingham will try to rebound with a game on the road against the Pioneers Tuesday, Sept. 22.
