Spady, Smith lead Lions past Lyncs in girls’ soccer

Kali Spady and Sierra Smith had two goals each and Lynden earned a 4-3 victory over Lynden Christian on Thursday, Sept. 10, at Bender Fields.

“Battling back to take the lead at halftime showed a lot of character,” said Lynden coach Carlos Melendez in a phone interview. “They fought through everything, the adversity, the heat.”

Freshman Smith took part in three of four goals for her team, an impressive feat after the Tuesday game against Ferndale where she worked equally hard, Melendez said.

Morgan Wandel had two of the Lyncs’ goals.

Both teams play again on Sept. 12. Lynden plays at Friday Harbor at 1 p.m. and Lynden Christian hosts Mount Baker at 11 a.m.
