Coach: David Kish
Last year: Went undefeated (23-0-1 overall )and 11-0-1 in the Northwest Conference (first). ... Scored a league-best 95 goals, led by Kim Hazlett’s 27 goals, and allowed a league-best 12 goals. ... Ran through the district playoffs, outscoring three opponents 10-0. ... Topped Olympic and Hockinson to make semifinals for third straight season, but broke through by beating Ephrata 3-1 and then won a school-first Class 2A state title by beating Shorecrest 2-1.
Players to watch: Kim Dorr (F, Sr.), Kim Hazlett (F, Sr.), Rachel Dorr (D, Sr.), Braeden Hilleary (F, Sr.)
Outlook: There’s really no reason the Storm shouldn’t be the favorites to repeat as Class 2A state champions. While the senior class was very important to last year’s team, this year’s squad doesn’t look much different. Kim Dorr and Kim Hazlett return as leading scorers, while Sarah Hulbert, Braden Hilleary, Catelyn Stevenson and Payton Fowler — all played major roles last season — will make up the rest of the offense. “The forward line hasn’t changed. We still have the same attacking group of six up top,” coach David Kish said in a phone interview. In fact, the Storm might even have more talent. Star defender Rachel Dorr returns from a knee injury, joining Olivia Benner, who started as a freshman, to make up the center back tandem, and former Red Raider and talented midfielder Kendra Steele joins the roster. “They want it again. Talk about motivation. From day one, they were just ready to do it again. ... They are motivated,” Kish said.
