Sehome ends season with loss to Cedarcrest

Sehome football ended the season with a 24-13 loss to Cedarcrest on Thursday, Nov. 5, at Cedarcrest High School.

“This game was just not how this team could have been. They really pulled together at the end of the season,” Sehome coach Bob Norvell said in a phone interview. “They could have folded after our Ferndale game where they got swamped but they continued to compete and played hard again tonight.”

Cedarcrest scored first, then earned a field goal, quickly leading 10-0. Senior Tanner Patrick scored a touchdown on a 1-yard run at the end of the second quarter.

Patrick had a couple of knockdown passes and then intercepted the ball in the second half to bring Sehome to the 5-yard line, Norvell said.

Sehome’s offense was hit or miss from play to play and Cedarcrest broke through the holes in their line, he said.

Senior Nathan Carroll scored Sehome’s second touchdown on a 25-yard pass to bring the score up to 17-13 before Cedarcrest responded with a final touchdown on a long run in the fourth quarter.

Sehome began the season winning two of their first three games but lost the final seven.

It’s been an emotional ride, Norvell said. He is proud of his team, who he says played fundamentally and physically with everything they had all season.

“I don’t think we ever really recovered form losing our starting quarterback in the first game,” Norvell said. “When you lose a guy you count on, it’s hard to recover from.”
