Ferndale’s Austin Honeycutt was selected as an Athlete of the Week by the Washington Interscholastic and Activities Association on Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Honeycutt, a senior running back/defensive lineman for the Golden Eagles, rushed for 224 yards and three touchdowns on 35 carries in Ferndale’s 20-16 win over Sedro-Woolley on Thursday, Oct. 29. The win lifted the Golden Eagles into a play-in game in the Class 3A district playoffs, which Ferndale won 49-20 over Marysville-Pilchuck on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Ferndale will now travel to face Bellevue at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7.

Honeycutt is the third Whatcom County athlete to earn the recognition through the first nine weeks of the fall season, joining Mount Baker’s Jed Schleimer (Week 4) and Sehome’s Taylor Rapp (Week 1).
