Bladies’ big night leads LC to win over Nooksack Valley
The Lynden Christian football team edged out Nooksack Valley 19-14 on Friday, Oct. 2, at Lynden Christian behind a powerful running game.
Lyncs running back, junior David Bladies, rushed 28 times for 241 yards and three long touchdowns.
“He was a man possessed out there,” Lyncs head coach Galen Kaemingk said after the win. “This wasn’t the first time this year he played like that.”
Behind Bladies’ powerful running attack was a much more physical offensive line that Kaemingk said played a lot better than last week in a loss to Meridian.
“Last week I thought the line was pushed around,” Kaemingk said. “This week we challenged them to play more physical and dominate the game up front, and they did that.”
Bladies noticed the physicality and said that his 241 yards were partly due to the large holes that the offensive line was creating.
Bladies’ first score was in the first quarter after he ripped off a 29-yard touchdown run. Later on in the third quarter, he broke off another long scoring run, this time for 56 yards. He topped off his night in the fourth with an 11-yard scamper.
After his third score, the Lyncs were up 19-6 with five minutes left in the game. Nooksack quarterback Casey Bauman threw an interception, and the Pioneers looked out of it.
But they quickly got the ball back after a defensive stand and marched down the field to cut the lead to 19-14 after Bauman hit Tre Silva for a 33-yard touchdown.
The Pioneers attempted an onside kick with a minute left in the game, but it was unsuccessful, and the Lyncs ran out the clock for the win.
“This by far the most fun I’ve ever had in a game,” Bladies said. “It was so sweet to help the team get a victory.”
