Lynden receivers hauled in deep pass after deep pass Friday, Oct. 2, at Civic Stadium. Even the ones Sehome lobbed their way.
The Lions tallied 242 yards in the air en route to a 47-14 victory over the Mariners. They also racked up 104 yards on two interceptions, one an 81-yard pick-six by senior Tristan Moffat when the game was all but over.
Sehome led 7-6 as the clock wound down at the end of the first quarter but Lynden quarterback Sterling Somers slammed the ball up the middle for a 5-yard score.
Lynden then went for an onside kick and recovered it, leading to a 49-yard bomb from Somers to senior Jordan Wittenberg to end the quarter. The Somers-to-Wittenberg connection was unstoppable as Wittenberg snagged six catches for 140 yards and a touchdown.

“They’ve been doing that since they were fifth-graders,” Lynden head coach Curt Kramme said. “They have a pretty unique connection and can kinda sense what each other are going to do and that’s a really good thing for us.”
Somers was 16 of 21 with 205 yards and three touchdowns. His other two touchdowns were quick strikes in the red zone to Davis Bode and Rylan Severson.
Lynden held Sehome scoreless in the second and third quarters while racking up 20 points. The Mariners only managed 71 yards on the ground despite both of their touchdowns coming on run plays.
Sehome head coach Bob Norvell said he wasn’t surprised by anything Lynden did Friday but that they executed better.
“They made the plays when they needed to and we didn’t,” he said. “I don’t know when it got real ugly but it got real ugly, real fast.”
Lynden improved to 3-2 and will host Burlington-Edison on Friday, Oct. 9.
