Son of legendary Meridian football coach takes program’s reins
The Meridian High School football team will be staying in the family.
Patrick Ames, the son of legendary Trojans coach Bob Ames, has been selected the new head football coach of the program, according to a release from athletic director Bryant Michaelson Monday, April 20.
Bob Ames announced his retirement on Feb. 3 after 46 seasons, three state titles and more than 300 victories.
Patrick Ames, who graduated from Meridian High, has served as an assistant on his father’s staff since 1999, including on all three state championship squads (1999, 2003 and 2006) and two other teams that made it to the state file in 2000 and 2017.
Patrick Ames currently is an English and Leadership teacher at Meridiah High and serves as the track and field coach.
“We are excited about Patrick taking over as the head coach at Meridian and know he will continue to build on our rich tradition of competitiveness and success,” Michaelson said in the release.
