Standout senior Zach Roetcisoender wasn’t able to get his Lynden Christian Lyncs to the Hardwood Classic, largely due to their brutal regional draw against Zillah, but the guard put together a brilliant season and was awarded All-Northwest Conference Boys’ Basketball Most Valuable Player.

League coaches Brian Roper (Lynden), Roger DeBoer (Lynden Christian) and Brett Senff (Anacortes) split Coach of the Year honors.

The All-NWC teams are selected by league coaches and were released earlier this week.

Roetcisoender won the league’s scoring title, averaging 22.6 points per game. He scored a season-high 39 points during a win against King’s Way Christian and 10 times recorded 25 or more points in a game.

First-team selections included Lynden’s Sterling Somers (18.9 ppg), Squalicum’s Damek Mitchell (15.9), Mount Baker’s Timothy Soares (16.5), Squalicum’s Josiah Westbrook (17.0), Ferndale’s Austin Honeycutt (17.4), Nooksack Valley’s Connor Beard (18.9) and Anacortes’ David Rodriguez (11.8).

Second-team picks were Sehome’s Leighton Kingma (17.4), Lynden Christian’s Jake Poag (14.6), Anacortes’ Trystan Lowry (13.8), Blaine’s Shaq Woods (17.5), Lynden Christian’s Josiah Meppelink (6.2), Mount Baker’s Grant Balvanz (12.7), Lynden’s Noah King (9.8) and Squalicum’s Darious Powell (14.1)
