Lummi loses shot at state

The Lummi boys’ basketball team suffered a winner-to-state Class 1B Tri-District loss 51-47 to Evergreen Lutheran on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Evergreen Lutheran and drop into a loser-out fifth-place game against Tulalip Heritage at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at Lummi.

Trazil Lane had 16 points, Tyrell Solomon-Ward had 12 points and Raven Borsey added nine points and nine rebounds, but Evergreen Lutheran got 31 points from Jeffrey Parker.

“(Parker’s) a great player. He’s their floor general, constant energy,” Lummi coach Jerome Toby said in a phone interview. “We tried to contain him but he was their X-factor.”

Toby said the Blackhawks fought the whole way and will stick to their style in Saturday’s game.

“I think we just need to continue to play the way we play,” Toby said.
