Pioneers beat Mounties in district game

Olivia Berkan hit a 3-pointer with seconds left on the clock and Nooksack Valley won 37-35 over Mount Baker in a third-place game of the Class 1A Northwest District Girls’ Basketball Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 13.

“Nooksack’s physicality really took us out of this one.” Mount Baker coach Kim Preston said in a phone interview.

The Pioneers were led by Katrina Gimmaka with 15 points, and Berkan added six points.

The Mountaineers were led by Danielle Tyler with 17 points.

Nooksack Valley will host District 2 No. 4 seed in an elimination game at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17.

Mount Baker will play an elimination game ay 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Overlake.
