The Ferndale boys’ basketball team won 71-56 in a first-round game of the Class 3A Northwest District Boys’ Basketball Tournament on Friday, Feb. 12, at Marysville-Pilchuck.
“These kids fought through some adversity,” Ferndale coach Jason Owens said. “I’m excited to see where this next step takes them too.”
Austin Honeycutt led the Golden Eagles with 27 points. Dane Larsen, Garett Holmes and Sky Freeman each added nine points.
Josh Bevan led Marysville-Pilchuck with 16 points.

Turning point of the game
The second quarter began with a technical foul, which brought the Mountaineers out of a “robotic” first quarter and pushed their 8-point early deficit into a tie game at halftime.
Play of the Night
Jackson King entered late in the game, during the fourth quarter and immediately took over, according to his coach. King shut down the lead scorer for Marysville-Pilchuck.
Ferndale goes on to face Edmonds-Woodway in a district semifinal at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Jackson High School.
