Girls’ basketball roundup: Second-half surge leads Lynden Christian past Mount Baker

Mount Baker held a one-point lead over Lynden Christian at halftime, but the No.1-ranked Lyncs outscored the Mountaineers 20-1 during the third quarter and came away with a 59-39 Northwest Conference win Thursday, Feb. 4, in Deming.

Kara Bajema scored a game-high 18 points, and Sam Van Loo added 10 points for the Lyncs. No. 6 Mount Baker was led by Danielle Tyler’s 16 points, and Kylind Powell had eight rebounds to go with her three points.

Mount Baker coach Kim Preston spoke of how competive the Mountaineers played during the first half, but LC altered its defense and the third quarter and that, combined with Baker foul trouble, proved to be the difference.
