BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Genger, Honeycutt lead Golden Eagles to win over Red Raiders

Carson Genger had 16 points and 12 rebounds and Austin Honeycutt added 14 points as the Ferndale Golden Eagles earned a 61-38 Northwest Conference victory Friday, Jan. 22, at Bellingham.

The Red Raiders kept close in the first half but the Golden Eagles clamped down in the second to earn the victory.

“I thought Ferndale turned up their defense in the second half and we didn’t respond to that,” Bellingham coach Brad McKay said in a phone interview of the 27-13 scoring difference in the second half. “ They were just opportunistic in the second half.”

Johnny Larson had 16 points for the Red Raiders and Zach Nolan added six points and eight rebounds.

21 Points Connor Beard earned for Nooksack Valley in its 60-53 loss to Mount Baker.

A good lively game. We were able to get a good lead in the first quarter and held it through the third but Nooksack fought back hard.
