Ferndale raced out to an early lead and got 12 different players minutes during a 59-44 Northwest Conference win over Meridian on Wednesday, Jan. 20, at Ferndale High School.

Austin Honeycutt scored a game-high 14 points, and Carson Genger and Jackson King each scored 11.

“We took away their inside game and went to a lot of trapping, and they couldn’t find any open looks,” Ferndale coach Jason Owens said. “We got a lot of pressure on them.”

Ferndale led 21-6 after the first quarter and took a 36-20 advantage into halftime. Meridian was led by Andrew Logan’s 10 points.

The win was the third straight for the Golden Eagles (9-6, 4-3 NWC) and the fifth straight loss for the Trojans (5-10, 1-6 NWC)

Burlington-Edison 60, Nooksack Valley 43: Nooksack Valley fell behind early and suffered its fourth straight loss with a NWC road defeat against Burlington-Edison. Pioneers coach Chris Scrimsher estimated his team gave up 20 points in layups.

Effort-wise we got up and down the court, but we gave up way too many layups and our defense was struggling. ... Not what you want to see in this juncture of the season.

Lynden travels to face city-rival Lynden Christian at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, in what promises to be an excellent game. The matchup features two of the top scorers in the NWC in Lynden’s Sterling Somers and LC’s Zach Roetcisoender.
