GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Pioneers hand No. 1-ranked Tigers second loss of season

Katrina Gimmaka had 15 points, Jenna Tenkley had 12 points, including four 3-pointers, and five assists and Rachel Sande pulled down eight rebounds and the Nooksack Valley girls’ basketball team beat Burlington Edison 55-48 in Northwest Conference play Wednesday, Jan. 20 at home to hand the Tigers their second loss of the season.

Burlington-Edison was ranked No. 1 in the latest Associated Press Washington Girls’ Basketball Prep Poll.

Nooksack Valley coach Shane Wichers said Burlington-Edison kept chipping away at an early lead but the Pioneers held on in part by going 10 of 12 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.

“Burlington is a great team and we were really excited with the win,” Wichers said in a phone interview. “Just a great team win.”

Edie Breckenridge had 18 points to lead Burlington-Edison.
