BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Lynden pulls off win over Baker in double overtime

Sterling Somers had 39 points, including four 3-pointers, and 12 rebounds to help the No. 4-ranked Lynden boys’ basketball team pull off a 74-65 double overtime Northwest Conference win Tuesday, Jan. 19, at home over No. 5-ranked Mount Baker.

Davis Bode added 12 points for the Lions and Noah King had 10 points.

“The Baker kids, to give them credit, kept coming back with a barrage (8) 3-pointers in the second half,” Lynden coach Brian Roper said in a phone interview. “They kept chipping away and fortunately we were able to survive in overtime.”

Mount Baker had nine 3s total to Lynden’s eight. Timothy Soares had 29 points and 16 rebounds for the Mountaineers and Grant Balvanz had 15 points on five 3-pointers and six assists.

Roper had high praise for Somers’ effort in the win.

“I would say he put on his hardhat today,” Roper said. “I’d say he’ll sleep well tonight.”

31 Points Leighton Kingma scored for Sehome in their 63-61 loss to Sedro-Woolley.
