GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Tigers too much for Mounties

Emily Brandland had 17 points, 13 rebounds and three 3-pointers but the Mount Baker girls’ basketball team suffered a 63-53 Northwest Conference loss Friday, Jan. 15, at Burlington-Edison.

Danielle Tyler had 13 points and Kylee Engholm added 12 points for the Mountaineers.

Edie Breckenridge and Tyra Lopez had 16 points each and Brandy Smith added 15 points.

“They are a good team and we were just happy to compete with them and get a good game,” Mount Baker coach Kim Preston said in a phone interview.

Lummi 36, Providence CC 33: Jenyha Ell scored 15 points to lead the Blackhawks to their first on-court win of the season. Lummi won by forfeit Thursday. Ceona Rabang had 13 points, including three 3-pointers for the Blackhawks.

Lynden 46, Sedro-Woolley 27: Elisa Kooiman had 18 points and Sierra Smith had nine points on three 3-pointers to lead the Lions to a Northwest Conference victory at home over Sedro-Woolley. Samantha Cox led the Cubs with six points.
