GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Camarillo leads Ferndale to win over Sehome

Darrien Camarillo had 19 points, nine assists and five steals to lead the Ferndale girls’ basketball team to a 66-56 Northwest Conference victory Thursday, Jan. 14, at home over Sehome.

Skylar Robison added 10 points, Gabrielle Edison had 10 points and seven rebounds and Nicole Guessford added eight points.

Ferndale coach Mike Ivy praised the work of Camarillo, said Ferndale’s bench play was key and also had praise for Sehome, which was led by Samantha Hruby, who had 12 points.

“(Sehome) did a good job of taking it to us the whole night, and we just weathered the storm,” Ivy said in a phone interview.

Anacortes 53, Blaine 26: Josie Deming led Blaine with eight points and Kjierstin Larson followed with five points, six rebounds and two assists. Anacortes was led by Maddy Hance with 13 points, followed by Alex Aldridge and Brooke Geffe with eight points each.

Nooksack Valley 50, Squalicum 42: Arlissa Oettel led Nooksack Valley with 26 points, five 3-pointers and 10 rebounds. Katrina Gimmaka followed with 12 points. Chalae Wolters earned 22 points for Squalicum and three 3-pointers.

Lynden Christian 54, Meridian 31: Kara Bajema and Sam Van Loo led Lynden Christian with 16 points each. Avery Dykstra and Haley Hollander each earned 7 points. Ellesse FitzGerald earned 11 points for Meridian and three 3-point field goals.

We played shorthanded, we’ve had the flu bug and Ryley Zapien did not play, it just took some air out of the ball and slowed the game down.
