BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Lynden nearly doubles up on Meridian

Lynden boys’ basketball won 62-32 over Meridian on Friday, Jan. 8, in a home conference game.

“I thought our energy and effort was really good from the get-go,” Lynden coach Brian Roper said in a phone interview. “Jordan Wittenberg and Andrew Kivlighn sparked us early by creating a number of turnovers.”

Wittenberg earned 14 points for Lynden followed by James Marsh who earned 10. Kivlighn and Sterling Somers each earned 9 points.

Lynden plays again at 7:15 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 11, at home against Blaine. Meridian will host Squalicum at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12.

Tulalip Heritage 49, Lummi 45: Trazil Lane earned 18 points for Lummi and Jeff Cultee scored 9 points and had three 3-pointers.

Squalicum 70, Bellingham 25: Damek Mitchell scored 16 points for Squalicum and had three 3-pointers. Noah Westerhoff and Simran Parmar each earned 11 points. Bellingham’s Johnny Larson scored a team-high six points.

Lynden Christian 67, Sehome 46: Zach Roetcisoender scored a game-high 21 points and Nate Hielkema added 18 to lead Lynden Christian to a road Northwest Conference win. Ben Malquist scored a team-high 10 points for Sehome, which trailed 31-26 at half before being outscored by 16 during the second half.

Mount Baker travels to play Ferndale at 7:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, in what should be a great frontcourt matchup with Mountaineers Timothy Soares and TJ Bass against Golden Eagles Austin Honeycutt and John Weg.
