BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Storm earn NWC victory at Golden Eagles
The Squalicum boy’s basketball team earned an 87-64 Northwest Conference victory Monday, Jan. 4, at Ferndale.
Darious Powell had 21 points, including six of the Storm’s 13 3-pointers, Josiah Westbrook added 18 points and Damek Mitchell had 14 points and 12 assists. Giovanni Melley led the Storm with six rebounds.
Ferndale coach Jason Owens said the game was closer than the score indicated.
“We were withing five with about 30 seconds left in the third quarter. ... We just kind of ran out of gas,” Owens said in a phone interview. “When they make 13 threes, it’s tough to overcome that.”
Dane Larsen had 17 points, John Weg added 14 points and nine rebounds and Austin Honeycutt had 13 points for the Trojans.
“I thought defensively we played well tonight,” Squalicum coach Dave Dickson said in a phone interview. “(Meridian is) a tough matchup for us so I’m proud of the way we played.”
