BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Season-high assists lead Borderites to win
Blaine used good ball movement to fend off Granite Falls in a 69-64 win in the Blaine Holiday Invite on Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Blaine High School.
The Borderites had a team-high 21 assists, led by Kier Munzanreder and Shaq Woods who both had five.
“The guys were sharing the ball really well,” Blaine coach Shaun Pile said in a phone interview.
Anthony Ball (14 points), Marcus Potts (13) and Woods (12) all scored in double figures.

Maple Ridge 55, Bellingham 42: Shorthanded Bellingham couldn’t quite keep up with Maple Ridge at the Crush in the Slush in Port Townsend, getting outrebounded 48-29 on the night. Caden Mee led the Red Raiders with 10 points.
Neah Bay 56, Nooksack Valley 49: The Pioneers lost to Neah Bay at the Crush in the Slush tournament in Port Townsend. No other stats were available at press time.
De La Salle 66, Sehome 63: De Laselle’s Neartu Aschalew hit a 3-pointer from just inside half court at the buzzer to hand the Knights a 66-63 victory over Sehome at the Cloud 9 Sports Lynden Christmas Classic at Lynden Christian High School. Marcus Montag had 18 points, Leighton Kingma added 12 points and Eddie Hoschsprung added 11.
Squalicum 86, Decatur 54: Damek Mitchell had 18 points, Noah Westerhoff added 15 points and Josiah Westbrook had 14 points as Squalicum rolled to a win over Decatur at the Wilbur-Ellis SunDome Shootout in Yakima. Karampal Dulay added nine points and Simran Parmar had six.
We were definitely shorthanded. We battled, but just didn’t have enough.

Lynden faces Zillah at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30., at the Yakima SunDome. The matchup features two of the best teams in their respective classifications, and both could be back in Yakima come March.
