BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Golden Eagles rally falls short
The Ferndale boys’ basketball team stormed back from a 47-39 deficit but fell one point short in a 62-61 nonconference loss to Marsyville-Pilchuck on Monday, Dec. 28 at home.
John Weg led Ferndale with 18 points and seven rebounds, Austin Honeycutt had 15 points and four assists and Garrett Holmes had 13 points, including three 3-pointers.
“Guys battled and fought all the way to the end,” Ferndale coach Jason Owens said in a phone interview. “That’s going to help us down the stretch.”
The Golden Eagles don’t play again until they travel to Highline for a 6 p.m. game Wednesday, Dec. 30.

Friday Harbor 72, Blaine 53: Shaq Woods had 30 points, including two 3-pointers, and pulled down seven rebounds but Blaine lost to Friday Harbor in the Blaine Holiday Invite. Michael Baldwin added 10 points for the Borderites and Jalen Kortlever had four points and five assists.
Seattle Christian 56, Bellingham 37: Rits Voeut led Bellingham with nine points on three 3-pointers, and Iyan Manju, Jack Lewis-Clarke and Caden Mee each had six points but the Red Raiders fell to Seattle Christian at the Crush in the Slush tournament in Port Townsend.
Tulalip Heritage 51, Lummi 43: Trazil Lane had 17 points to lead Lummi but Tulalip Heritage was too much in the second half, according to Blackhawks coach Jerome Toby, Raven Borsey had nine points, John Ballew added seven points and Jeff Cultee had six points.
Nooksack Valley 58, Maple Ridge 34: The Pioneers earned a victory over Maple Falls at the Crush in the Slush tournament in Port Townsend to improve to 8-3 on the season. No other stats were provided.
Second half they came out with more energy and we came out flat. Turnovers were a big part of it, too.
