GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Oettel leads Pioneers to tournament win

Arlissa Oettel had 17 points, including three 3-pointers, Katrinna Gimmaka had six points and three assists and Brianna Turner added 12 points as the Pioneers earned a win over Bainbridge Island on Monday, Dec. 28, at the Crush in the Slush tournament in Port Townsend.

Emilia Gimmaka had nine points and Rachel Sande had seven rebounds to lead Nookack Valley.

Pioneers coach Shane Wichers said it was a solid performance by his team.

“I thought defensively they did a real nice job. (Bainbridge) only made three baskets inside the 3-point line,” Wichers said in a phone interview. “Arlissa Oettel had nine of her 17 points in the third quarter. It’s always nice when someone comes out and shoots the ball well and gives our team confidence.”

The Pioneers play the Aussie Travelers at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, to finish up at the tournament.
