GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Different players step up in Ferndale win
The Ferndale girls’ basketball team had three different players take over different parts of the game, as they cruised to a 62-39 win over Franklin during the final day of the Eastside Catholic Christmas Classic on Wednesday, Dec. 23.
Darrien Camarillo scored 13 of her game-high 25 points in the first quarter to help the Golden Eagles jump out to a 20-10 lead. Gabrielle Edison then scored nine of her 11 points in the second quarter to help Ferndale increase its halftime lead to 31-16. Freshman Nicole Guessford then scored all eight of her points in the fourth quarter to help her team close out the game.
“We’re so young and, with no varsity experience, it was great to see the girls believe in themselves,” Ferndale coach Mike Ivy said in a phone interview. “We had a really good first half.”
