BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Roetcisoender’s huge night gives Lyncs win
Zach Roetcisoender scored 39 points and added 10 rebounds as Lynden Christian remained undefeated (8-0, 2-0 Northwest Conference) with a 60-51 nonconference win over King’s Way Christian on Tuesday, Dec. 22, in Vancouver.
“He had an enormous night for us,” LC coach Roger DeBoer said in a phone interview. “We knew it was going to be a hard fought game.”
While Roetcisoender’s huge numbers were a big reason for the win, DeBoer credited the four offensive rebounds from both Nate Hielkema and Grant Rubbert for the win. Josiah Meppelink also played great defense on “D-I talent” Kienan Walter while contributing eight assists.
Other results
Meridian 54, Concrete 14: The Trojans (5-5, 1-1) cruised to a huge win over Concrete in large part due to Brenden Buys’ physical defensive play. On the offensive end, Brady Moore led Meridian with 15 points and Camden Burgess scored 11.
Squalicum 75, Blaine 61: The Storm turned the ball over just three times and despite a poor shooting night pulled to a 14-point win over Blaine. Josiah Westbrook had 26 points, Damek Mitchell had 16 points and nine assists, Darious Powell had 14 points and Giovanni Melley scored 10. Kier Munzanreder led the Borderites with 23 and Shaq Woods had 19 points and 21 rebounds.
I think we’re a pretty smart group. ... We’re very aware we still need to get better.
