BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Squalicum earns road win over Marysville-Pilchuck

Squalicum rallied in the fourth quarter and bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 63-54 nonleague win over Marysville-Pilchuck on Saturday, Dec. 19, in Marysville.

Josiah Westbrook scored a team-high 21 points, Darious Powell had 19 and Damek Mitchell contributed 12.

“Marysville played really well, and we had to play well in the fourth quarter to come from behind and get the victory,” Squalicum coach Dave Dickson said.

The Tomahawks led 43-40 entering the fourth, but the Storm outscored them 23-11 during the final eight minutes.

Lynden Christian 56, Cedar Park Christian 37: Zach Roetcisoender scored a game-high 25 points to extend the Lyncs’ unbeaten streak to seven games with a nonleague game over Cedar Park Christian. Jake Poag added nine points, and Grant Rubbert had six points and a game-high nine rebounds.

Mount Baker 68, La Conner 31: Mount Baker overmatched La Conner in nearly every facet en route to a lopsided nonleague win. Timothy Soares finished with a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds, Grant Balvanz had 16 points and TJ Bass added 12. The Mountaineers (4-2, 1-1 NWC) outrebounded La Conner 49-16 and had 17 more assists.

Nooksack Valley 62, Overlake 59 (OT): Nooksack Valley hit some big shots down the stretch and earned its third straight victory with a nonleague overtime win against Overlake. Connor Beard scored a game-high 25 points, Noah Rawls scored 15 and Aaron Bosscher had 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Up next

Sehome’s 1996 state championship team will be in the house when the Mariners play host to Arlington in a nonleague game at 7:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21. Sehome will be looking to bounce back following a loss to Nooksack Valley.
