GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: LC knocks off Class 4A Kentlake

With Avery Dykstra leading the way, Lynden Christian put together a tremendous defensive performance to earn a 43-33 nonleague win over Class 4A Kentlake on Saturday, Dec. 19, at the ShoWare Center in Kent.

Kara Bajema scored a game-high 15 points, and Sam Van Loo posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

“I was proud of how the girls competed and grinded,” Lynden Christian coach Brady Bomber said. “They were a skilled offensive team, and we were really able to take them out of their comfort zone, so that was big.”

The win was Lynden Christian’s sixth straight.

Other results

Lynden 54, Centralia 53: Natalie Amos scored the eventual game winner with 18 seconds left, and Lynden beat Centralia in a nonleague game following a lengthy road trip. Centralia had the chance to tie with two free throws and 1.8 seconds left but missed the back end. Elisa Kooiman scored a game-high 26 points.

Nooksack Valley 55, Overlake 17: The Pioneers’ legs held up on the tail end of back-to-back games and the fourth game this week to top Overlake. Every player scored for Nooksack as Jasmin Zavala led the team with nine points.

Marysville-Getchell 58, Bellingham 39: Bellingham hung with Marysville-Getchell until halftime but was outscored 36-15 during the second half of a nonleague loss. The Red Raiders were led by Paige Jacobsen’s 13 points, and Autumn Jacobsen chipped in eight.

For a preseason, nonleague game after having a game last night, this is really what we needed to have.
