BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Trojans hold on to early lead

Meridian pulled to a 17-3 lead in the first quarter and held off a Bellingham comeback to get a 45-43 win on Thursday, Dec. 17, in a Northwest Conference game.

Camden Burgess made some key buckets down the stretch and Brady Moore sealed it at the line late, while Bellingham’s shot with 1.5 seconds left went in and out.

“Bellingham showed a lot of heart tonight,” Meridian coach Shane Stacy said in a phone interview. “They battled back and kept fighting.”

Moore finished with 16 points and Burgess had 13 for the Trojans (4-4, 1-1 NWC). Bellingham (3-4, 0-2) was led by Zach Nolan’s 14 points.

Other results

Mount Baker 57, Sedro-Wolley 54: Timothy Soares had 17 points and iced the win over Sedro-Woolley with two late free throws and Jed Schleimer tipped a pass out of bounds as time expired as the Mountaineers earned a Northwest Conference victory over the Cubs. Grant Balvanz led Mount Baker with 19 points, including five 3-pointers, and TJ Bass had 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Ivanhoe 51, Lummi 41: The Travelers from Australia were too much for Lummi, as the Blackhawks saw their 31-game win streak come to an end. Trazil Lane scored 20 points but the size of Ivanhoe was too much for Lummi.

Obviously for them (the boys), it was something they were keeping an eye on, but I just said ‘Let’s not get too caught up in that.’
