BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Big second quarter leads Lions past Golden Eagles

The Lynden boys’ basketball team used a 12-4 second-quarter advantage to beat Ferndale 66-50 in nonconference action Friday, Dec. 11, at Ferndale High School.

Noah King had 17 points for the Lions, Jordan Wittenberg had 14 points, including three 3-pointers and Sterling Somers had 16 points as Lynden improved to 3-0 on the young season.

Sky Freeman had 11 points for Ferndale, Austin Honeycutt had nine points and four assists and Riley Hunt added eight points

Squalicum 70, Tamanawis 47: Josiah Westbrook scored 28 points and the Storm, led by Damek Mitchell’s defensive pressure, forced 28 Tamanawis turnovers in the nonconference victory. Mitchell also scored 13 points and had eight rebounds.

Sehome 75, Marysville-Getchell 47: Leighton Kingma scored a game-high 24 points, and Logan Deboo added 18 as Sehome earned its first win of the year, snapping a three-game skid with a 75-47 nonleague home win over Marysville-Getchell on Friday, Dec. 11. Sehome, leading 15-11 after the first, opened the game up in the second by outscoring Marysville 28-15.

Lummi 58, Lopez 36: After four practices in four days following the football team’s state championship appearance, the Blackhawks handily topped Lopez. Trazil Lane scored 31 of Lummi’s 58 points in the win. He also brought down 13 rebounds.

Kyle Hofstetter and the Bellingham Red Raiders host Mount Baker and Timothy Soares in a nonleague matchup at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Bellingham High School. Hofstetter and Soares are two of the league’s top scorers so far.
